2 killed in accident at Benoi Road shipyard

Two died in an accident that took place in a shipyard along Benoi Road on Thursday, said a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman. The police have confirmed that there was an explosion, but the cause is still under investigation. It appears that an industrial barge that was undergoing maintenance was involved. However, no fire was found when the SCDF arrived. Paramedics pronounced the two male workers injured in the incident dead on the scene.
  According to a press statement released by the authorities, the incident was reported by a member of the public at around 1.30pm. The incident was also reported on citizen online journalism portal Stomp. 'I was in my office nearby (at Benoi Road) when I heard a very loud thundery noise,' wrote Stomper Joe. He added: 'I could feel the office building shaking.
